   In 1888 a new small village settles down, next to the Shore of the Mar Menor. As usual it locates around a hermitage. The foundation is made to instances of the Barnuevo-Sandoval marriage. Frey Jose Maria Barnuevo Rodrígo de Villamayor was Knight of the Military order of Santiago, reason why this small village was baptized as a new born to this locality with the name of Santiago de la Ribera. Just a short time ago, it became a holiday village for the wealthy families from Murcia, who build their summer homes throughout the coastline which they still have conserved.
   At present, Santiago de la Ribera shows a perfectly urbanized location,with modern views and a beautiful promenade flanked with palm trees throughout the length of its beaches.You also will find beatiful landscaped areas surrounded with very nice woods.
